The An Even Greater Place To Work Team

“An Even Greater Place to Work” is a passion project initiated by employees of Schaeffler in the leadership of Micah Shepard, Regional CEO Southeast Asia/Pacific, in 2020. With the goal of promoting positivity and wellness among employees and communities in locations across the region, the initiatives have increased internal engagement and external outreach with activities in 5 focus areas: Sustainability, Health and Wellness, Corporate Social Responsibility, Facility Enhancement and Employee Recognition.

Passion to spread positivity, one smile at a time

At the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Health and Wellness team served as a great source of comfort to many. The team organized virtual meetups which included talks that targeted mental health and physical exercises like Yoga classes and online workout challenges to improve the physical health of employees while staying socially connected.

25 projects, 70 Tonnes of carbon dioxide reduction, and a Green Industry Award

Through the ingenuity of the Sustainability workstream team, Schaeffler identified 4 strategic focus areas in sustainability – reduction in carbon emissions, water, and resources as well as education in sustainability. These areas were chosen after careful thought and precise calculations so that sustainable efforts can remain consistent, and results maximized.

More than a one-off project, projects initiated continue today. Some projects include tree and coral planting, recycling rainwater and reducing waste landfills. In particular, Schaeffler has requested partners to reduce plastic materials on product packaging as part of resource reduction. In total, the Southeast Asia team reduced about 70 Tonnes of carbon emissions. The icing on the cake? The Thailand team received the prestigious Green Industry Award in recognition of Schaeffler Thailand’s environmentally friendly way of conducting its manufacturing business.

From Schaeffler to local communities

Even with COVID-19 measures, An Even Greater Place To Work team banded together to contribute in various ways, from philanthropic efforts to volunteer activities. Due to the strong demand for protective equipment during the pandemic, Schaeffler volunteers sourced thousands of surgical masks and face shields and donated them to local hospitals. When the Red Cross reported a drop in blood donations, Schaeffler responded by organizing regular blood donation drives in Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia to alleviate this challenge. On top of that, the team also donated to a local orphanage in Indonesia and participated in a virtual charity run organized by the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) to raise funds for providing Artificial Kidneys for patients’ dialysis treatment in Singapore.

As more challenges await the team, we believe that they will remain passionate in spreading positivity within Schaeffler and make our work environment #AnEvenGreaterPlaceToWork
